What was special about the Sox championship last year was that a team had finally won it all instead of a collection of individuals. Baseball fans might think small ball is what you are forced to play if you don't have nine home run hitters but small ball should be the first priority and home runs second if you can't actually play the game. What happened to the Sox this year is a sign of our big-play-individual-star culture. Success is to pro sports as sun is to bananas-it rots the fruit. “Small ball” is another name for team baseball. He was one of our best relievers, so it does us a disservice to have him out there for only one batter. Also Oz, stop throwing BA under the bus. We understand that he struggled early, but he rebounded, but you still threw him under the bus. For a while he was our most consistent hitter, until he started slumping toward the end again.
